National Voters Registration Day

Today is the big day! For those who aren’t familiar, National Voters Registration Day (NVRD) is a nonpartisan effort to increase the number of registered voters in our country and really make sure that everyone who can vote, is registered to do so.  It’s executed primarily by volunteers, like me and so many others, who canvas their local communities to encourage and register citizens to vote.

This year’s NVRD was especially important because of the recent changes in the Voting Rights Act which now limits the types of identification voters can use to prove identity at the polls.  So not only were we registering people to vote, we were also educating them on the changes, and also bringing awareness to the upcoming elections on Tuesday, November 5.

This year since we don’t have a presidential election there won’t be as much excitement around the November 5 election activities. This is all the more reason that we need to get out and get involved in what’s happening in our local communities, where our voices can be heard and where we have the most impact.  Let’s be the ones to make a difference! #noexcuses
